The GCHS Museum was constructed about 1910 to serve railroad clientele and has been known as the Owensville Hotel, Ozark Hotel, and the Railroad Hotel. The building was purchased by the Historical Society and renovation began in 1992 with the goal of establishing a county museum, which was accomplished with its opening to the public in 2000.
The Museum's focus is primarily on items related to Gasconade County and its residents. The display rooms tell the story of people coming to this area to start a new life. They depict their homes and farms, clothing and tools, churches and schools. It tells of a people who were involved in six wars, founded businesses, civic and social organizations and left us with a wonderful heritage of music, art and literature.
