About Us:

The purpose of the De Soto Historical Society is to educate and bring together people interested in the rich history of De Soto and the surrounding areas of Jefferson  County. We  are  dedicated  to  the preservation of De Soto’s history and feel that learning about our local heritage gives us a better understanding of who we are and where we came from. It  provides valuable lessons for the future, and helps to inspire a sense of pride in our community.

The De Soto Historical Society was formed in 1990 after the destruction of our beautiful railroad depot. Many of the people in our community felt that too much of our past was being lost and wanted a way to preserve it.

We are a not for profit organization and depend solely on membership fees, donations and fundraisers to continue our work.

We have a museum currently housed in The Spotted Horse Antique store at 200 Main St. De Soto, MO. The purpose of the museum is to acquire and house items of historical significance for our community and preserve them for future generations.

Then take a walk down Main Street and see how much the buildings have changed. You will still be able to identify some of the unique features on the old buildings. It’s fun for the whole family.
