About Us:
Founded in 1976, the BCRD is a non-profit recreation organization whose mission is to enhance the quality of life in the greater Blaine County through healthy, active recreation. We strive to make our community a place that feels like home, a good place for all kinds of people where recreation is the cornerstone of healthy, active and productive lives. For over 30 years, the BCRD has been the primary resource for recreational opportunities for kids, families and adults in the Wood River Valley. The BCRD has a strong tradition of improving the quality of recreation while working to meet the needs of our growing community.
Our reach is wide. As a rural community, we serve an estimated 85% of our county's 23,000 residents and over 50,000 visitors each year. The BCRD manages the 22 mile Wood River Trail, the BCRD Aquatic Center, a pump track, volleyball and tennis courts, BCRD FitWorks(a fitness center and gymnasium), the HUB Youth Center and a 150km Nordic Trail System that includes the historic Galena Lodge. In addition, we operate many youth and adult sports leagues, and after school and summer day camp programs.
The BCRD is governed by a three member elected volunteer Board of Directors and managed by a fourteen member full time staff. The BCRD also employs many seasonal employees and enjoys a large volunteer base of support. The Galena and the Trails Advisory Committee also provides additional input and support for the Galena Lodge and summer and winter trails operations.
