Focus & Impact

The Annapolis Maritime Museum educates youth and adults about the Annapolis area's rich maritime heritage and the ecology of the Chesapeake Bay through programs, exhibits and community events. We accomplish this mission through an engaging suite of hands-on programming and by bringing visitors to our unique location, at the mouth of Back Creek overlooking the Chesapeake Bay.

The education program at the Annapolis Maritime Museum annually serves more than 3,000 students from the City of Annapolis and the surrounding region. Our goal is to help students connect to the place they live, a connection that is necessary to foster a strong environmental ethic and sense of stewardship.

The Annapolis Maritime Museum (AMM) is a major community asset serving Anne Arundel County and beyond.

A volunteer board of 15 distinguished community members, together with an advisory board of 11 members, and a professional staff oversee the operations and long-range planning for this tax-exempt 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. We are also proud to say our thriving cohort of volunteers (almost 300 at last count) are involved in all aspects of the Museum's functions. Please visit our Donations page if you are interested in making a fully tax deductible gift to the Museum.

This welcoming little museum greets you with a small free parking lot and a tiny outdoor park with sturdy wooden bench, historic work boats on display, piers to view the bay, and a free public canoe launch. Inside the museum building you'll find a large aquarium you can "step into" (behind glass) with handy touch screen information, a boat kids can climb board, and interesting displays about the creatures of the Chesapeake Bay and the historical seafood industry in Annapolis. Includes nice public restrooms, a tiny gift shop, and a large rentable events room lined with regional art photography.

This area of Annapolis is called East Port. We were doing a self guided tour using an app called "Whereigo" that a fellow Geocache had created as part of the 2018 Cache Across Maryland geocaching event. This tour took us where we had been but we're not aware of it's special community history.
